2022: ENGLAND 25 - 25 NEW ZEALAND
England mounted an impressive comeback in the final ten minutes to seal a 25-25 draw against New Zealand at Twickenham.
First Half
Two early tries from New Zealand through Dalton Papalii and Codie Taylor gave the All Blacks a 14-0 lead before Owen Farrell replied with a penalty. Jordie Barrett added three more from the tee to see his side into the changing rooms 17-3 up.
Second Half
Marcus Smith contributed a penalty of his own to close the gap once more, but a breakaway try from Rieko Ioane followed by Barrett’s conversion and a Beauden Barrett drop goal put the visitors 25-6 up. With ten minutes left on the clock England began to mount a stunning comeback. Smith broke through the line well and was tackled short but Will Stuart powered over for the try. England scored again two minutes later through Freddie Steward, who dummied and scored before Smith added the extras to put England within seven points. Good hands in the midfield put England five metres out and Stuart bundled over for his second and Smith converted to tie the scores.
2019: ENGLAND 19 - 7 NEW ZEALAND
England stunned New Zealand with a lightning-fast start in the 2019 Rugby World Cup semi-final, as Manu Tuilagi crossed after just 95 seconds to set the tone for a dominant 19-7 victory.
First Half
England began brilliantly against New Zealand in the Rugby World Cup 2019 semi-final as Elliot Daly and Anthony Watson combined to give England territory almost immediately.
They worked the ball across the pitch and a combination of offloading and quick ball saw them burst into the 22 before quick thinking from Manu Tuilagi put him over for the opening score after 95 seconds.
After 24 minutes England looked to have scored another through Sam Underhill, but the try was scratched off for an offside call, leaving the score at 7-0.
Resilient defence from England gave Underhill the opportunity to win a turnover penalty and George Ford duly slotted his kick to go in at half-time 10-0 up.
Second Half
New Zealand were pinned in their 22 early in the second half and Ben Youngs sniped over from close range, but the try was disallowed for a knock-on.
A tackle off the ball allowed Ford to extend the lead to 13 points before New Zealand hit back through a converted Ardie Savea try.
Ford kicked a further six points to make the score 19-7 and the English defensive line held strong to secure a famous Rugby World Cup victory.
2012: ENGLAND 38 - 21 NEW ZEALAND
England secured their first win over the All Blacks in nine years thanks to a dominant display at Twickenham.
First Half
Three Owen Farrell penalties and a drop goal handed England a 12-0 half-time lead. But New Zealand, who were unbeaten in 20 matches, pulled back through the converted tries of Julian Savea and Kieran Read.
Second Half
New Zealand hit back with converted tries from Julian Savea and Kieran Read, narrowing the gap. But England responded with a flurry of scores. Brad Barritt crossed after a slick move with Manu Tuilagi, who then set up Chris Ashton before intercepting a pass to score himself. Two Freddie Burns penalties extended the lead before Savea added a late consolation, sealing a famous 38-21 win for England.
2002: ENGLAND 31 - 28 NEW ZEALAND
England recorded only their fifth-ever victory over New Zealand, running out 31-28 winners at Twickenham.
First Half
Three Jonny Wilkinson penalties were answered by two converted Kiwi tries, courtesy of Jonah Lomu and Doug Howlett. But another Wilkinson three-pointer and a Lewis Moody score gave Clive Woodward’s men a 17-14 half-time lead.
Second Half
Then the momentum swung, as England registered 14 points in the opening eight minutes of the second half. Taking penalty advantage, Wilkinson eyed up a drop goal before feigning and chipping a kick over the All Black defence – he ran onto it and dived over the line for a try. Moments later Ben Cohen streaked away for a score of his own and England were 31-14 up.
Another try for Jonah Lomu and a first for Danny Lee set up an intense finish, but England ground out a famous Twickenham win.
1997: ENGLAND 26 - 26 NEW ZEALAND
England held their nerve late on to earn a thrilling 26-26 draw against New Zealand in a fiercely contested Twickenham clash.
First Half
England stunned the All Blacks with a blistering start at Twickenham. David Rees crossed early, followed by tries from Richard Hill and Neil Back, giving England a commanding 23-9 lead. Paul Grayson added a penalty, and despite injuries to key players, England held firm.
Second Half
New Zealand regrouped and struck back quickly. Andrew Mehrtens scored a try and added two penalties, narrowing the gap. Walter Little then powered through for a converted try to edge the visitors ahead 26-23. But England weren’t finished. Grayson held his nerve to slot a late penalty, sealing a thrilling 26-26 draw in one of Twickenham’s most memorable encounters.
