  Golden Gate Bridge

  San Francisco is a fabulous city and the iconic Golden Gate Bridge is one of the highlights. You can take part on an organised walking or cycling tour, taking in some of the most spectacular scenery. The bridge gives you sweeping views of San Francisco Bay and the fabulous city skyline. If you choose to walk a little bit further, you can wander through Baker Beach, meander past the huge mansions of Sea Cliff and maybe stop at the historic Cliff House for a well-deserved refreshing drink. Once you’ve taken in the Golden Gate Bridge, it’s just a short journey on either foot or bike to Fisherman’s Wharf which have some of the best restaurants in the US where you can tuck into cuisines from traditional American, Asian, Italian and of course seafood. The Clam Chowder is one not to be missed!

  Union Square

  A trip to San Francisco wouldn’t be complete without some retail therapy. Union square is the hub of the city and boast many shops and department stores packed into the area surrounding the actual square. Restaurants, bars, boutiques and galleries are tucked away beside larger buildings, so going on an explore of the square can easily while away hours! At the crossing of Powel and Market street you can catch a manual cable to explore the outskirts of the city, if you do, be sure to take in The Stinking Rose restaurant on Columbus Avenue where they create a culinary euphoria of garlic, serving over 3,000 pounds each month. If garlic ice cream is still on the menu, give that a swerve!

  Alcatraz

  If you only do one thing over and above the rugby, make sure it’s a trip to Alcatraz. Alcatraz is probably the most well know prison/penitentiary in the world and held infamous prisoners such as the Birdman of Alcatraz and Al Capone. The audio tour is a must and will take you on a journey of prison life which actually makes you feel like you were there! You’ll visit the Mess Hall and learn interesting facts and anecdotes that will be sure to inspire you return to the UK and buy one of the many Alcatraz inspired films made such as, Escape from Alcatraz, Birdman of Alcatraz and The Rock. Our favourite? The Shawshank Redemption of course. It regularly sells out weeks in advance so ensure that you book ahead to avoid disappointment.
