WAYNE’S WORLD DELIGHTS FANS

A visit from two Rugby legends, an impromptu Haka and a free bar – they were the perfect ingredients for a great Rugby World Cup night for England fans in Auckland.

WAYNE’S WORLD DELIGHTS FANS
When the legendary ‘Buck’ Shelford steps up and launches into the famous Haka, it’s a little wonder the All Blacks went undefeated for three years – and England fans got a serious eyeful of his thigh slapping prowess when he delved into an impromptu rendition of the battle cry at an exclusive event for England Rugby Travel clients.

The former Kiwi captain, who made a name for himself as an iconic leader of the All Blacks and was responsible for introducing the modern version of the Haka to the pre-game rituals, was one of the star guests at a fans night at the Auckland Rydges Harbourview Hotel.

Shelford was joined by former England scrum-half and current ITV commentator Andy Gomarsall at the first of three unique pre-game nights at the official hotel for England fans in New Zealand.
Nearly 200 fans enjoyed the hospitality of a free two-hour bar in the hotel, music, a Q&A session hosted by ITV’s Nick Mullins, competitions and prizes.

But the stand-out moment was Shelford’s Haka – that had every fan on their feet taking part!

“It’s fair to say everyone absolutely loved the event,” said England Rugby Travel’s event manager Matt Reay. “But the highlight was the Haka – everyone on the floor got up and joined it – it was a great atmosphere.

“Wayne Shelford and Andy Gomsarall shared Rugby World Cup stories, talked through England’s progress during the Tournament and gave an insight about Rugby in the past – but I am sure doing the Haka with ‘Buck’ is something fans will remember for a very long time.”

The famous duo kept England fans entertained for two hours, mingled with clients and handed our prizes. There are two further exclusive England Rugby Travel events on the eve of the semi-finals and the Final.
