Update on the Earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand - 11am Tuesday 22 February 2011
Following the serious earthquake on Tuesday 22 February in Christchurch, New Zealand our thoughts are with the people of the city and Canterbury region and their friends and family at this difficult time.
In an update from Tourism New Zealand on Tuesday morning it was announced that Christchurch airport is currently closed and a security cordon has been put in place in the city while emergency operations are carried out.
Rydges Hotels have informed us that all staff and guests who were inside Rydges Christchurch at the time of the earthquake have been safely evacuated. The Hotel is inside the security cordon and is currently closed.
The Tourism Board has also informed us that all regions outside of the Canterbury area are unaffected. This includes Queenstown, Auckland and Rotorua.
We are in contact with our suppliers, the authorities and the Tournament organisers in New Zealand and we will update you as soon as further information becomes available.
Please be assured that we are assessing and monitoring the current situation in Christchurch as a priority.
