When Allan Cove was presented with an envelope from his wife Patricia on his birthday on 15 May this year, he received the shock of his life, and a trip of a life time!

England fan Patricia Cove was so desperate her husband Allan would be at Rugby World Cup 2011 that she saved every penny possible – from the moment the final whistle went in the 2007 Final!
And when Allan retired earlier this year he got the best shock of his life when Patricia produced two tickets for all of England’s pool matches in New Zealand thanks to England Rugby Travel on his birthday.
“After watching the Final in France four years ago my mind suddenly went forward to 2011 and I realised my husband would be retiring in the May,” Patricia said from her hotel in New Zealand.
“I thought what a great retirement present it would be if we could get out to New Zealand – I saved everywhere I could, kept it a total secret by using my son’s address for all the communication and admin and didn’t tell him until May 15 this year on his birthday.
“When he opened the card I don’t think he could believe it – he was very shocked but also delighted. I think it was only when he saw the itinerary did he realise we were actually going – it was a bit like a fairytale.”

“The opening ceremony was wonderful, just absolutely brilliant, and England’s game against Argentina was very emotional because it was so close and tense,” she said.
“We have also been lucky enough to explore around Queenstown. The whole place is very beautiful, laid back with fantastic scenery. I don’t think we could have had a more brilliant time if we tried – I just hope England keep winning!”
After watching Martin Johnson’s men face Scotland in Auckland, Patricia and Allan will enjoy four days in Fiji and then a week in Sydney before flying home – life back at Gloucester’s Kingsholm will never seem the same again!
