DARREN HOPING FOR GREAT DAY IN SCOTLAND
Darren Wilkes will tick off another away venue in the RBS 6 Nations Championship this weekend – when he makes the trip to Edinburgh for England’s Calcutta Cup showdown against Scotland.
Already a veteran of England games in Paris and Dublin, Darren took the last minute decision to see England’s bright new dawn under head coach Stuart Lancaster with England’s official travel company – and is relishing a ‘heart in the mouth’ experience at Murrayfield.
“I have been to a few games in Dublin and Paris but I have never been to one in Scotland and it’s all about a new experience and doing something new,” he said.
“It’s also the first game, the England team will be new and the RBS 6 Nations Championship is a great leveller so I am really looking forward to it – I am sure it will be a heart in the mouth weekend.”
Hundreds of England fans are preparing to journey north for the opening game of the 2012 tournament and Darren will touch down on Saturday morning.
“The thing that sticks out for me is being around England fans in the stadium, the national anthem is always sung that little bit louder and England fans stick together,” he added.
“I think there is always that respect between the teams and as I have never seen England win away I am looking forward to the weekend.
“The plan is to get to Edinburgh early and have a look around the Castle, then have a couple of beers over lunch in a restaurant I have booked – followed by a few more afterwards!”
The England Rugby Supporters’ Club member and Harlequins fan is relishing seeing his club skipper Chris Robshaw captain England for the first time and has also used England Rugby Travel before.
“The fact tickets are guaranteed to be official has a lot to do with it – there is no point taking a chance travelling that far to be let down. It is also very well organised and creates more camaraderie because you are together with other England fans around the hotel – I am really looking forward to the weekend.”
