Durban

Durban is located in sub-tropical Kwazulu-Natal and resides on the east coast, next to the beautifully warm Indian Ocean.

Durban

The city is influenced by several cultures: The name Durban comes from Sir Benjamin D'Urban, who in 1835 was the first successful European settler in the area. The area was colonised first by Dutch and later by English settlers.

They brought over large groups of Indian labourers to work in the emerging sugar industry. It is blessed with golden sandy beaches that stretch over hundreds of miles, and lies at the centre of some of the country’s best game and marine reserves up the north coast, the magnificent Drakensberg Mountains are a half day’s drive inland and there are thriving coastal towns along the south coast.

Durban is home to the Sharks Super 14 rugby team at ABSA stadium and is where Jeremy Guscott kicked the winning drop goal on the 1997 tour.
