Cardiff
Cardiff is a compact city, which has everything a capital city should have to offer. There are an abundance of things to see and do in and around the city, and the centre can be easily explored on foot.
The city comes alive on match day, and this is extended into the evening where you can enjoy Cardiff’s vibrant nightlife. St Mary’s Street runs parallel to the Millennium Stadium and is home to an array of bars, clubs, shops and restaurants.
The recently redeveloped old Brains brewery quarter opened here in 2003, and is now an impressive open air piazza home to many of the top names in chain restaurants. Be sure to pay a visit to Brains own flagship venue, the Yard Bar and Kitchen.
A contrast to the shopping central of Queen Street, where you will find all the high street names, are the Victorian arcades which run off St Mary Street, these quirky arcades have a range of independent shops and cafes.
Amidst the hustle and bustle you also will find the charming Cardiff Castle with its historical influence from Norman, Roman and Victorian eras. Just behind the castle you can also explore the spacious and picturesque Bute Park, the largest city centre park in the UK.
Approximately five minutes outside of the centre you will find Cardiff Bay which is the regenerated site of the Cardiff docklands. The Cardiff Bay area hosts a cinema complex, restaurants, bars, museums, and the impressive Wales Millennium Centre, home of Welsh opera. Mermaid quay at Cardiff Bay is a great place to watch the world go by, whilst enjoying some great food from a choice restaurants.
Cardiff is a city mixing both the old and the new with a distinctive charm and a friendly atmosphere, a great location to enjoy a momentous weekend of rugby.
