Rustenburg
Rustenburg, situated some 80 miles northwest of Johannesburg at the foot of the Magaliesberg Mountains, is the hub of a thriving agricultural and mining industry, where amongst other things, platinum is mined.
Rustenburg is the third oldest town in an area formerly known as the Transvaal, and was founded in 1851 by ‘burghers’ - farmers descended from Dutch settlers - who had settled in the area a decade earlier.
Its streets are famous for their beautiful purple-flouring jacaranda trees. Rustenberg is only a short drive away from South Africa’s most visited tourist destination, Sun City.
