Rome

Since the Italian Rugby Federation was established in 1928, Rome has always had a team playing in the national league and the Stadio Flaminio has been the symbol of rugby in the country.

On 11 February, 2006 the Flaminio area will be a bustling, busy district several hours before the match starts. Fans coming from all over Italy and from England will bar-hop on the narrow streets around the stadium for a pre-match beer, or gather in front of the main gates where there will be stalls selling food, drinks and souvenirs.

But in true Italian festive style, the pre-match atmosphere starts days in advance with the whole week seeing the centre of Rome entertaining fans from both nations.

Two years ago English and Italian fans were warming up with rugby balls in Campo de' Fiori, one of the most famous squares in the city centre.
